2008 should be an exciting year and we hope you will continue your interest in the work we do. Our online presence will continue to grow, but it's the day to day activities of our volunteers that helps to make a difference to Northern Ireland's people and environment. Amongst the many projects we are running, there could be something for you - from training to trees, from environmental education to Green Gym. And don't forget! We are offering "Free Trees" to schools and community groups - visit our Northern Ireland Tree Campaign pages to find out more. If you know of a group that might be interested, please let them know. Certain straightforward conditions apply.

Conservation
Volunteers Northern Ireland would like to wish you a merry Christmas
and a happy New Year from all our staff and volunteers.
Since
achieving the B&Q 'You Can Do It Award' earlier this year the Mater Green
Gym has been busy rejuvenating the grounds of their Day Hospital. Regardless
of the weather the team has been working tirelessly to achieve their
end goal of creating a functional fruit and vegetable patch and a relaxation
garden.
Pupils
from Fair Hill Primary School in Dromore, Co. Down, as part of National
Tree Week, helped Edentrillick Quarry support local wildlife by planting
native trees and shrubs. The quarry applied for free trees from our Northern
Ireland Tree Campaign.
Our
Managing for Biodiversity project comes to a close at the end of the
year. It has delivered a series of high quality training courses for
land managers and provided advice to encourage people to manage land
for the benefit of biodiversity. We would like to thank everyone for
their interest in this project and remind you that articles archived
on our website will remain available for future reference.
This
episode will take us to half way (the fourth of eight programmes) in
the BBC's Planet Earth Under Threat series. The subject this month is "Ice".
