On
the first Thursday, Friday and Saturday of June, Springwatch Action
Teams (SWATs) helped to transform pieces of land in Castledawson, Crumlin,
Omagh, Strathfoyle and Kilfennan to the amazement and delight of the
local communities.
BBC Radio
Ulster and Radio Foyle transmitted live shows, BBC Newsline covered
the events and BBC Springwatch gave the lion's share of regional coverage
to Northern Ireland.
These projects
were carried out as part of
BBC Breathing Places. More below.

Crumlin
Glen
The
Belfast Conservation Action Team descended on Crumlin Glen, County Antrim
to give it a makeover. The Glen is an area of mixed woodland including
the Crumlin River and waterfall. The area has been blighted with litter
and has become a night-time gathering place for local young people.

Omagh's
railway garden
Omagh's
railway garden received a welcome rejuvenation from our Fermanagh & Tyrone
Conservation Action Team. The garden had become overgrown and unrecognisable
despite it commemorating five rail workers who were killed on the railway
line in November 1950.

Blue-eyed
grass - the sun-loving wildflower
This
member of the Iris family - it's not a grass - is a Fermanagh speciality.
It is a unique wildflower that reminds us of the links between history,
culture and wildlife in the rich Fermanagh landscape. Help to conserve
it by sending in your sightings of it, and who knows what other plants
you will discover!
